The movie opens in the fall where, after three pregnancy tests in Rollo's (Rainn Wilson) store, Juno MacGuff (Ellen Page) discovers she is twelve weeks pregnant by her close friend Paulie Bleeker (Michael Cera). Juno and her father visit the affluent Lorings in their suburban home where the high-strung Vanessa is unsettled by Juno's sarcasm, but Juno and Mark form a bond over their shared musical interests. Mark reveals that he was once in a punk band but now writes commercial jingles. Juno teases him because Vanessa has boxed all his hobbies – Les Paul guitars, song writing, and comic books – to a single room in the house.

As he does so, he learns that his estranged wife, Stella (Melissa George), who moved out of town awhile ago, missed the last plane out of town and will have to spend the 30 day period in Barrow. Although they try to avoid one another, when Eben confronts The Stranger in the town diner, she helps subdue him and take him to the station house.

Cloverfield is very effective for what it is. The true pleasure of watching Cloverfield is akin to finding a message in a bottle. In this the case, the bottle is a video camcorder and the message is the content on the videotape. The film is the epitome of the YouTube Generation. The movie’s greatest irony is that watching a videotape on the big screen returns us to the pleasures of a shared communal experience. This is a movie that has to be seen in a crowded theater in order for it to be effective. I truly believe this movie will lose a lot on a small screen and especially watching it on a computer. I am not even sure if it will hold up on repeated viewings. Cloverfield is more an experience than an actual film. This is not a bad thing given the nature of the storytelling devices that director, Matt Reeves, and screenwriter, Drew Goddard, employ. By focusing on the human element aspect of the genre, we are thrown into the action when everything goes down. You want to know what it feels like to be that woman cradling her young children in the original Gojira or dazed and scared as the running crowds like in either version of War Of The Worlds; this movie puts you in the middle of that experience. Reeves accomplishes what John McTiernan claimed he wanted to do in Predator– put you in the middle of action. Reeves does this with incredible ease. Speaking of War Of The Worlds, this movie does an excellent job of creating a level of panic just as Steven Spielberg did with his remake in 2005. I find the first half of that film to be as scary as they come. Spielberg’s version captured the fear very well, just as Frank Darabont did in The Mist last year.

PC Games: The Neverhood

Description:

Never before has a game's window on its own secret world begged so colorfully and texturally for you to stick your hand right into the thick of it and start moving your character around. Were this by some as-yet invented medium actually possible, however, the design would backfire, for the ability to encircle little Klayman's neck and squeeze all of the animated life out of him in the last third of the game would make ever finishing it impossible. Which is not to say that finishing the game isn't impossible anyway. While exploring The Neverhood's early stages and solving its puzzles - which involve moving or rearranging items, making connections, and mimicking a tune - are a pleasure to work your way through, things take a serious turn for the worse the deeper you go. Kind of reminds me of the the Saturday Night Live "Mr. Bill".

Personal Note: The story I like best is "Next Door" (guess it shows from my personal rating, huh?). Just wished that there was more to the storyline (lack of depth), most probably due to the time constraint. The casting was excellent! I have enjoyed this episode tremendously (to the extent of re-watching it for 4 times!!). However, the next episode "Dark Hole" was a disappointment. I never liked Japanese horror anyway. There's never anything horrifying at all in their horror movies - and most of the time, you will end up watching the movie and still remain as clueless about the storyline as you were before watching the movie (no offence intended). The Thai episode, "The Lost Memory", was average (but certainly not an episode worth re-watching as well). The most ridiculous aspect of the movie was the casting of Prang's husband, Wit who was supposedly to be a womanizer, and the man whom both Prang and her bestfriend, Paew fought over (oops, sorry about the spoiler!). My goodness, the guy isn't even anything near good-looking. Wonder what is wrong with the casting director's eyes??!

Much was written about Will Ferrell's first "dramatic role" as Harold Crick, an IRS auditor who begins hearing a voice narrating his life. But Stranger Than Fiction is hardly a drama. However, what Ferrell does--like Jim Carrey before him in The Truman Show--is handle a toned-down character with genuineness and affection: you believe he is this guy. Crick leads a lonely life filled with numbers and routines. While at first he considers the voice a nuisance, Crick decides more action is needed when it speaks of "his demise." Enter Professor Jules Hilbert (Dustin Hoffman), who takes on the absurd notion with revelry, trying to find out what kind of book Crick's life is leading. It turns out that the voice Crick is hearing belongs to Kay Eiffel (Emma Thompson), a very real--and troubled--author who is writing a book in which Crick is a fictional character. As usual with these things, the stuffed shirt learns to live a better life--Crick even falls for one of his audits, a brash baker named Ana (Maggie Gyllenhaal). Marc Foster (Monster's Ball, Finding Neverland) has the right tone for the film, using great urban scenes (the unnamed city is Chicago) with interesting visualizations of Crick's world of numbers. He also directs Ferrell, Hoffman, and Gyllenhaal to their most charming performances (plus Linda Hunt and Tom Hulce pop up in two funny scenes). Ferrell succeeds in being a romantic lead you can root for; a scene where he eats Ana's freshly baked cookies is totally delightful without a hint of sarcasm. Screenwriter Zach Helm has two personal traits with his story: like Crick he followed his heart (he stopped rewriting scripts and only worked on his own) and like Eiffel, the final results are not a masterpiece, but good, and entertaining enough. Britt Daniel of the band Spoon worked on the dynamite soundtrack.

The film opens with shots of desolate, wide-open country in West Texas in June 1980. Meanwhile, Llewelyn Moss (Josh Brolin), hunting pronghorn near the Rio Grande, comes across a collection of corpses and one dying Mexican, the aftermath of a drug deal gone sour. He also finds two million dollars in a suitcase. Initially taking the money and leaving the Mexican to die, Moss has an attack of conscience late that night and returns with water for the dying man. This good deed sets off a cat-and-mouse game in which the hunter and hunted frequently switch roles, as a gang of Mexicans, Moss, Chigurh, and Bell chase each other and the money across the Texas and Mexico landscapes.

Chigurh, a professional hitman, has been hired to retrieve the case of money, which has a transponder hidden in it, facilitating his assignment. Chigurh doesn’t hesitate to kill those standing in his way, including those closely associated with the drug deal (such as two mid-level lieutenants working for his employer), the drivers of cars he steals for transportation as he chases the money, and people he encounters by chance. Moss, unaware of the transponder's existence, sends his wife Carla Jean (Kelly Macdonald) out of town and jumps from motel to motel as he attempts to elude both the Mexicans and Chigurh. Bell, meanwhile avoids the federal authorities’ investigation of the murder and drug deal scene, and focuses his attention on trying to locate and protect Moss. Of these, only the heavily armed Mexicans actually come in physical contact with the others. Chigurh, with his tracking device, inexorably closes in on Moss, while acting as an agent of fate and chance to the people he meets.

Cindy, while trying to figure out her own mystery, bumps into her old friend Brenda Meeks. Teogether, they decide to defeat the aliens. Brenda then discovers a hidden village outside of town and Cindy figure's out the boys father is somewhere inside. Now it's up to Cindy and Brenda to find the boys father and unfold the mystery on how to defeat the aliens, who in fact have their own plans on how to torture such people like Shaq and Dr. Phil.

Tilo (Aishwarya Rai) is an immigrant from India, and a shopkeeper, who is also the "Mistress of Spices." The spices which she gives to her customers help them to satisfy their needs and desires. Her life changes when she falls in love with Doug (Dylan McDermott), an American man.

Tilo is initiated as one of several Mistresses of Spices by a First Mother (Zora Sehgal) who warns them about rules they must follow, or face consequences. Tilo ends up in San Francisco in a store called "Spice Bazaar".

Tilo's customers include Haroun, a cab-driver from Kashmir (Nitin Ganatra), a grandfather (Anupam Kher) dealing with an American-born granddaughter Geeta (Padma Lakshmi), Kwesi, a man trying to impress his girlfriend (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) and Jagjit, a teenager trying to fit in at school (Sonny Gill Dulay). Her life takes a turn one day, when a man on a bike crashes outside her store. Tilo tends to Doug's injuries, while trying to ignore her attraction to him.

This burgeoning friendship soon starts to manifest in things going sour in her relationships with her other customers. Haroun gets in an accident, Geeta's family situation does not improve, Jagjit falls in with the wrong crowd at school, Kwesi's girlfriend breaks up with him and Doug finds out that his mother has passed away.

Taxi 4 2007 PROPER DVDRip XviD

Taxi 4 is great! It is so light, so optimistic, so unabashed and so well done that leaves only good impressions. Usually, the sequels and moreover all other continuations do not work out, but this did it. 91 minutes of the film fly so quickly that at the end you need more of this merry, funny, witty work. All the beloved heroes are here – silly Police Chief with all his crazy ideas, pot-smoking Rasta cop, slightly slow Afro-American cop, and then, the excellent trio of main heroes – Mr. Taxi Driver, Daniel; clumsy and sluggish Emelienne and then his super wife, Petra. This trio holds the whole film well, but then without all the secondary characters it also would be impossible to make this movie so good. The Belgian criminal, slightly stupid gangsters, terribly inept policemen, shoot-outs, chases, fights, drugs, football – everything is mixed up and served so hot, so immediate, so tasty and so refreshingly funny. This is a great example that Part Four sometimes may be very good.

A group of Immortals quest to locate the mysterious "Source" in the near-future. Joe finds MacLeod in a fight with the Guardian and shoots Duncan, hauls him into a truck, and drives off to meet with the others at a monastery, in order to meet with an ancient being known as the Elder so they can locate the Source.

At the monastery, they meet Anna Teshemka, Duncan's wife, who is having visions. The Elder meets them all as a group, and tells of how, in ancient history, another group of Immortals sought the Source. Upon slaying the Guardian, the two survivors were cursed with decay, and one of them became the new Guardian. The Elder tells them all to follow Anna, who knows the way. She receives a vision from the Elder. Meanwhile, the Guardian comes and attacks Reggie and Joe Dawson on holy ground. In an effort to save Dawson, Duncan throws his katana at the Guardian, temporarily wounding him. The Guardian removes the sword from his neck and breaks it, killing Joe with the broken blade before escaping. After burying Joe, they leave for the Source, which they have determined to be on an island.

Entitled 881, it is the pronunciation in Mandarin, which sounds like papaya, a tropical fruit. Here, we have a pair of sisters named Papaya sisters, which was named after Big Papaya (Yeo Yann Yann) and Small Papaya (Mindee Ong), who shares the same interest of listening to Hokkien songs from the late Hokkien singer Chen Jin Lang. They become good friends and with the help from Sister Ling (Liu LingLing, a popular getai host in Singapore) and her son Guan Yin (Qi Yuwu), they rise to popularity at the getai for their performance in Hokkien songs.

Soon, their popularity leads to the jealousy of Durian sisters (May and Choy, the MTV VJ in Asia), and they create troubles for Papaya sisters, which leads to the final showdown for both Papaya and Durian on the last day of Seventh month in a competition. Winners will remain in the Seventh month industry, while losers will have to stop performing forever.

Watching 881 is a rare treat for Singaporeans who loves Singapore films, after we seen several box office failures with mediocre performance and bad reviews in cinemas. For those who have previously watched Royston's 15 and 4.30, expect something different for 881, a musical cum comedy.

Firstly, the introduction was presented in the style of Jean Pierre Jeunet's Amelie. which was handled in the similar way Royston made his short film in the past. Next, as the movie discussed about getai, famous getai performers such as Wang Lei, Karen Lim, Lin Ru Ping and Liu herself were given supporting roles to made the movie more realistic and closer to the heart of Chinese Singaporeans.
